At the day long Working Groups event, we joined other youth from all over Orange County to discuss and develop our service projects with leaders in the non-profit community that would contribute to the Dalai Lama's message of compassion and global Leadership!

Here's a video about the day's events...
We learned a LOT this day; everything from marketing to sponsorship to planning to believing in ourselves.

The day was packed with activities, was tons of fun and hours passed like minutes!!

Then, on
May 4th, we attended a Living Peace Series event at UCI where  His Holiness the
XIV Dalai Lama
was speaking at the sold out
Bren Auditorium.

The main messages I got from his talk were that:
   1)
There is a misconception that compassion only benefits the receiver.  This is untrue, for those who give and express compassion benefit just as much as those
who receive it.
   2)  True leaders have "warm heartedness" and genuine compassion.
   3)  In order to be a leader, you must be confident in yourself.  In order to be confident in yourself, you must have positive thinking.
   4)  There is an internal balance within yourself.  When certain emotions increase, others decrease.  Therefore, positive thinking will outweigh negative emotions and
fill you with warm heartedness and self-confidence.
   5)  Emotions cloud our judgement and perception of things and prevent us from seeing the truth in front of us.  If a person is filled with anger, his judgement is clouded by anger.  If a person is filled with fear, he or she will only see and act
out of that fear.  Therefore, if you clear your mind of chaotic emotions, you will ultimately see the truth of the situation around you and find a solution to your problems.
   6)  When most people look at a problem, they only look at one, narrow part of it, rather than the whole.  And so they think that by solving that tiny part, the entire problem will disappear.  But problems are always interconnected, and ignoring the broader picture will result in only the creation of more problems.
   7)  Compassion is a common aspect of every religion.  Compassion is not even limited to only those who are religious.  Compassion can be given and expressed
by even those who are atheist.

The event was

live streamed into another room where we were undergoing security checks required for our attendance at the
PTTOW!  Youth Media & Innovation Summit
with His Holiness
as the Keynote Speaker

This entire experience was AWESOME!!!
We also had the opportunity to meet with Will.i.am, Linkin Park and Kelly Slater!!!

Thank you to the Center for Living Peace for making this opportunity possible!
