The Goal of the Art Program To help the children: · Discover the playful creativity that is part of having a happy childhood · Build self-esteem, a sense of self-importance and individuality, and · Encourage self-expression The classes will be held at the Shelter for the Homeless (also known as American Family Housing) in Midway City. During the summer, the classes will be held twice a month. Once the school year begins, classes will be once a month. Each class will be organized and run by Uni Care Project club members. We used the funds from a $500 grant award from Do Something.org to jump start the financing of the program. We also hold fundraising events and supply drives to continue to provide art materials for the program. |
A typical class:
· Volunteers prepare for the class by getting the art supplies ready for the children.
· There will be paint and clay available for the kids at every class. Classes will also have a seasonal craft or theme.
· We are there to guide the children through a project and be present to support their creative expression.
